Yesterday I read about our PM-in-waiting making his desires known to the FM-in-charge. I am talking about Rahul Gandhi and Mr.PC.

PC has weaved a budget that will surely cast a spell on the populace and as they are spell bound, he will take away all their money! His budget for the super power of the near future included a component called loan waiver! One of the biggest components of the budget this year was a loan waiver. Simply writing off Indian rupees sixty thousand crore in one-go was a shock for the most accurate of budget predictors. (more…)

‘Masti ki paathshala’ or ‘No Paathshala’!

Today’s TOI discusses about a bunch of youngsters who were kept out of the formal schooling system by their parents and yet have reached a stage where they are now pursuing interests of their choice, having cleared the National Open School examinations. Are these people out of their minds? How can they do such a thing? How can they put their children’s future and education at stake?

Or are we the people out of our minds?

What is wrong with the schooling system that these people considered such a harsh decision in the first place? You just have to look at the load the little ones carry to school. You just have to look at the amount of time they have to spend doing their homeworks. (more…)

‘Bowl out’ but NEVER ‘Bow out’

Just when the new format of cricket called ‘Twenty-20′ has only started getting into us, a still shorter version called ‘Ten-XI’ has sprung up and someone is actually patenting this new format! This new shorter version will almost be like the One-Day format shrunk to the last ten overs, but it is also a version loaded with rules.

In the set of rules, I noticed that, gone are the days of  a match ending up as a tie or a draw. The rules ensured that one of the teams ended up as a winner. Now I know that most of you will agree to the new format. But we are forgetting that this game is a gentleman’s game! Or should I say “was”! Gentlemen fought their matches with zeal and perseverance but were also willing to acknowledge their inability to defeat the other team and were ready to share the honors with them, thus sharing the points, sharing the win.
