David Letterman, the popular host of an entertaining talk show in an episode last week made a reference to 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin saying that she had the style of a “slutty flight attendant”. He also made an inappropriate comment about Palin’s daughter linking her to a baseball player. The daughter who accompanied Palin is just 14 years old. Letterman retracted his statement saying that he was infact talking about Palin’s other daughter who is 18 and is an unwed mother. (more…)

On most days, a racist attack, anti-abortion riots and a crucial national health plan would have automatically been the important news of the day. But June 11, 2009 was not one of them. Donald Trump, who owns the rights to Miss USA, the beauty pageant announced that Carrie Prejean, crowned Miss USA runner up was being sacked for breaking her contract with him and the furore that followed has divided the United States of America into two. Dear Diya,

25 years back, on a cold winter morning, God came to my home wrapped in a small bundle.  A pink smudgy face,tiny arms and legs…. eyes that learnt to speak much before the mouth did…In a flash of a second, i had gone from being a selfish young guy to a man entrusted by God to bring up this tiny ray of hope…this ray of happiness we call Diya…

Oh what a misfit I was at first! Couldn’t hold you properly and had nightmares about dropping you!  Could never get the diapers right and wished there was a mute button on you when you cried all night for no apparent reason!  But I learnt…and I have loved every moment of it….

It was 7pm and I was fuming.  Nothing had gone right for me.  The ideas that I had painstakingly worked on all week were dismissed by my boss in less than three seconds. 

A colleague had promised to help me get through my deadline but conveniently forgot.  My cellphone service provider threatened to block my outgoing calls if I did not pay the bill till the end of the day and worst of them all….my paycheck arrived…and the young upstart who joined the company yesterday was suddenly earning more than me! (yes…I sneaked into his payslip…come on, my suspicion wasnt without reason!!) (more…)
