PORNSTEIN

Dear Cathy,

I want to tell you my story before you decide to marry me. I don’t want to keep you in the dark about who I am because I feel it would be shocking and painful for you when you know this after our marriage.

I was born in to a rich family and both my parents were doing well with their careers. Dad was an investment banker and mother was a doctor. So there was never any need in life except the need to be loved. Both of them stayed extremely busy, for them to spend some time with me. I was always taken care of by a nanny who would be enjoying the delicacies in the fridge while I would be in my room, surrounded by battery run toys and stuffed animals for company. (more…)

A Case of Cussing

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Johnson had a blessed marriage. I got an opportunity to speak at the wedding and it was a memorable event. The place where he got married was about eight hours by bus from where I lived. On the eve of the wedding, as we were traveling towards the destination by a bus, I sat by a young man I knew well. He had his phone in his hands and every couple of minutes he was looking into it. Suddenly it would buzz and he would start punching into it again and then repeat the waiting ritual! This was continuing since the time we got into the bus. He was only in his late teens and so he was certainly not finalizing the terms and conditions of some commercial deal for sure! But the communication via the ‘SMS’ was keeping him as engrossed as a big business deal would! (more…)

Single parent, Multiple woes

Shekhar,

This letter is as good as an SOS call. I am leaving this at your parents place because I knew no other place I could track you. Although I shared a few things with your parents but I hope this letter will help you to know the whole story. It’s not about me, my health, your career or anything else but it’s about our son Rahul. The Gospel of Neetu Chandra

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

Neetu Chandra did succeed in churning up a dust storm in the media with her newest pose, which according to many of her applauders was bold. Honestly I feel, she doesn’t realise that she is too naive and is being used as an object to feed the media pages with sizzles. The journalist and the media group that put up her larger than life images, I am sure would not have been filling the pages with tons of support and appreciation nor felt the pride if it was their daughters, sisters, wife or mother. But then who cares when you get a free ride on someone and they allow you to use their story to spice up hungry audiences and heinous ends. The sickening thing is that even she seems to be loving it, and appreciates the raving eyes and desires of debauched minds of people that feed in with a peep in to her - what they call truckloads. Behind the Circus

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

The loud music coming from inside the huge canopy, huge halogen lights all around, smell of excitement rising above the small stench of animal presence, vendors selling popcorn, wafers, cold drinks, balloons, toys etc, and anticipation and excitement of my elder daughter and even myself are some of the first few things that come to my mind when I look back to the evening a couple of days back. I had never seen a circus for real. There were huge gates to greet us and to make sure people don’t barge in. The show inside was still on and we could hear faint sounds of announcements by the ringmaster rising above the din of music and the murmur of hundreds of people.  Suddenly, they appeared. Hordes of them smiling, talking, some amused, some with a look of disbelief and most only thinking about the next chore on their list. They kept trickling out and I was surprised by the number of people that tent had accommodated! (more…)

Project Natal or Fatal

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

In my wee-wonder days of childhood, the classic debate was “Will robots replace human beings?” The person who stood “for it”, always won the debate by justifying the fact about the improved quality of life, faster production & development, maximum utilization of natural resources etc. Hearing the debate I always wondered what type of a dumb and wobbly feeling would have measured-up in the heart of the person who stood against it!

But today it would be foolish to, not admire and be thankful for the great achievements of modern technology over the last century: advance medicines, advance energy, advance weapons, high speed communication and navigation systems. (more…)

New York

David Letterman, the popular host of an entertaining talk show in an episode last week made a reference to 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin saying that she had the style of a “slutty flight attendant”. He also made an inappropriate comment about Palin’s daughter linking her to a baseball player. The daughter who accompanied Palin is just 14 years old. Letterman retracted his statement saying that he was infact talking about Palin’s other daughter who is 18 and is an unwed mother. (more…)
