The real reason for the season: Christmas

Saturday, December 31st, 2011

As we approach Christmas, let’s not forget the reason for the season: not the angels, not the shepherds, not the wise men, not Mary and Joseph, not even the infant in the manger, but the reason why the story in Bethlehem ever happened at all:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)

Ending all Rejections

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. Revelation 3:20 (Bible)

Some of the saddest words we can ever hear on earth are: “We don’t have room for you.”

Jesus knew how those words slam your heart. For while He was still in Mary’s womb the innkeeper said, “We don’t have room for you.” …

Latter-Life Crisis!

‘Grey Divorce’, as it is increasingly being called, is on the rise. Couples who remain married for decades together are seeking divorce! This trend has been around for a while now but it has once again come under focus with Al Gore announcing a separation from his wife of forty years, Mary “Tipper” Gore!

The Gore divorce annoucement came as a shock to the Americans especially because just about two weeks earlier they had celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary and 40 years is a really long time! As a couple they have survived emotional upheavals, the likes of which few could imagine. During their stint for the White House, and earlier even as ‘Monicagate’ loomed large over Al Gore’s political future too, they created the public image of a couple deeply in love. (more…)

The prosperous state of Gujarat has an ambassador now. A brand ambassador who will become the face of the state henceforth. It is none other than “Big B”, Amitabh Bachchan, and ever since he came to the state a few days ago for photo and video shoots at different locales of this state, every move of his has been reported by the media, including what he blogs and tweets about his experience everyday!

Mr. Bachchan too has been creatively churning out impromptu slogans and jingles. Actually, some of his observations are quite insightful. Posted on one of his blogs: “What a magnificent country we own. And it is only when you visit these places yourself do you realise that it’s not just the greatness of the domain that makes this land so wonderful and blessed, it is the man on the street, the commoner that gives this nation its strength and its glory!” I say, “Awesome insight”! Can I meet him, beyond the grave?

 beyond-the-grave-new-4.jpg

This blog would be best understood if you can read it once you’ve read my last blog – “What drove him to the grave?”.
I was in Australia with one of my best friends, discussing with him and his daughter who was shattered by the suicidal death of one of her friends. She wanted to share a few questions with me, for which she was seeking answers very desperately. One of her main concern was, whether she would be able to meet her friend or talk to him any more? What exists beyond death? Would she ever have a chance to meet her friend? (more…)

PORNSTEIN

Dear Cathy,

I want to tell you my story before you decide to marry me. I don’t want to keep you in the dark about who I am because I feel it would be shocking and painful for you when you know this after our marriage.

I was born in to a rich family and both my parents were doing well with their careers. Dad was an investment banker and mother was a doctor. So there was never any need in life except the need to be loved. Both of them stayed extremely busy, for them to spend some time with me. I was always taken care of by a nanny who would be enjoying the delicacies in the fridge while I would be in my room, surrounded by battery run toys and stuffed animals for company. (more…)

A Case of Cussing

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Johnson had a blessed marriage. I got an opportunity to speak at the wedding and it was a memorable event. The place where he got married was about eight hours by bus from where I lived. On the eve of the wedding, as we were traveling towards the destination by a bus, I sat by a young man I knew well. He had his phone in his hands and every couple of minutes he was looking into it. Suddenly it would buzz and he would start punching into it again and then repeat the waiting ritual! This was continuing since the time we got into the bus. He was only in his late teens and so he was certainly not finalizing the terms and conditions of some commercial deal for sure! But the communication via the ‘SMS’ was keeping him as engrossed as a big business deal would! (more…)
