Words of Life

Dear Son,

I want to tell you something that I have been keeping in my heart for quiet some years. This happened thirty years back, when we were a newly married couple and we just wanted to enjoy our married life for the next two to three years before we thought of expanding our family. More than that, in those days I had a not so well paying job of a stenographer in the state government. Your mother had taken up some tuition to help me with the finances and that helped us in making ends meet. (more…)

Generation Zoozoo!!

Finally Vodafone seems to have found the nemesis for the ‘Pug”. Hutch, the ex-name of Vodafone, was known for its pug, a dog that followed its owner everywhere, conveying the ‘where ever you go, our network follows’ punchline. The pug was such a hit that Hutch couldn’t keep the pug out of any of its strategies and ads! I mean literally, whatever Hutch did, the pug followed! The pug tried to enter the Vodafone camp after Hutch was bought by Vodafone. However, Ogilvy & Mather finally seem to have come to the rescue with a new mascot(s), thus paving the way for the last and final departure of the good old pug ‘Chika’. (more…)

Workshop Parenting

Anju Musafir. Not a name that would make many people in Ahmedabad to turn their heads, even just an year ago. However, recently, when a workshop was announced in a school where Anju was to speak, there was an unprecedented rush of lawyers, doctors, teachers and even psychologists to hear Anju! Very often it is the subject of the workshop that draws the crowd. But in this case, people were flooding in just to see and meet Anju. Anju had become someone who had certainly impacted their lives. Imitating Immortality

When I was reading the newspaper the other day, it was carrying an article about the ‘the great down ageing syndrome’. It is all about how people in their middle age years are turning to youthful looks and they are doing everything possible to keep up with the changing times. (more…)

Masking the Maccabre Massacre

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

The entire nation (and in fact a few more nations) is still ranting and raving because of the despicable carnage that it was forced to watch helplessly (which need not have been relayed live to this extent in the first place) and breathlessly even as a few (no one knows for sure how many) perverse and fanatic young men held a host of our army and other security men on their toes and positions for about 60 hours needlessly killing hundreds of men, women and children of diverse religion and race in the due course and damaging property worth millions and much worse, denting the image and morale of this allegedly glorious nation (glorious perhaps only by its own definition and that definition too perhaps acceptable only to not the whole of itself)! A mask, the nation, at least at the socio-political level, is inwilling to put off! Let me show you the masks associated with the Mumbai event! (more…)

Finding the greatest purpose and meaning!

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

The news that I read today was the second of its kind coming out of the U.S as a result of the Global economic crisis. Another one of the non resident Indian brutally killing his family, this time it is Lakshminivasa Rao Nerusu. Originally from Andhra Pradesh, Lakshminivasa had lost his job a few days ago and was in a state of depression. He brutally killed his 37 year old wife, 14 year old daughter and 12 year old son. He had inflicted grievous injuries to the head and neck areas of his victims, sadly they were also his loved ones.

Asking Science – To gay or not gay

Friday, October 31st, 2008

The Ahmedabad Mirror (TOI) reported today news on the Delhi High court’s stand on a matter regarding the Center’s move on banning gay sex. Chief Justice A P Shah incidentally has asked the Centre, Quote: “show us some scientific report which says that gay sex should be criminalized”. Unquote Now that’s the Chief Justice demanding science, to prove that Gay sex is wrong and is an evil that is detrimental to the society. Apparently the Centre quoted some religious text condemning the act and had requested criminal provision against homosexual acts stating it is required to curb the spread of HIV infection. It further said that homosexual behavior is a reflection of a perverse mind and it could not be allowed in the society, things which are quite easily & intuitively perceivable, without a PhD in Science.
