End of Season… Sale
By: Blesson (July 20th, 2008)The newspapers were covered with spine chilling images and reports of the city’s riots and happenings, however another caption that’s been flashed thru the journals was “End of Season Sale, upto -70 % off”. This I guess must have brought a smile on the readers face as they can now buy their favorite brands at such a discounted price.
I believe the end of season sales is the time when the product pricing hits reality. It’s the time when all the glam and glitter of the brand, the brand value, the snob and air around the products hit reality and the prices reflect the actual worth of the products.
Ain’t it true? There is always a time in life when the season ends and things hit reality. The products which were being displayed on real-life like mannequins, the classy jingles, the promises/claims which make it highly desirable and instill a vacuum in our lives, adorned and kept under the glamorous lights within matter of seconds fall down in value. The price tags are cancelled now, the discounts highlight on them.
If we question, what has changed and caused this effect? It’s intriguing to know that something outside the control of the strong brand, its promoters, its demi-god ambassadors, its infallible repute and standing, caused the deflation in the bubble that surrounded the brand and its products – End of seasons. The product pricing and value has all deflated as much as 70-80%, the products look more approachable and within grabs.
It often takes an end of season for many of us to hit reality in our lives as well. Sometimes it takes a hospital bed, a walking stick, crashing stocks, a violent mob, a loved ones death to make us realize that we are humans and a mere breath. Many of us who live on our unreal, selfish and unapproachable heights, suffering from I-dolatry, riding the waves of popularity, success, wealth and power behave as if the entire world can be ruled on our whims and desires. We prevent ourselves from smiling at others to keep intact our image, demean others to prove we are atop, withdraw ourselves from mingling with others, withhold ourselves from wishing a junior, protest to listen to someone who is below us in the ranking, cos we think the season and time is led by us.
God brings us thru many seasons in life and the changing seasons, silent but firmly convey and point towards a reality and a time, when finally the seasons would lead us to an end. An end when so many things that we treasured, valued and relied so heavily upon would all loose their values and worth. The tradition we trusted so much, the philosophy that blinded us from reaching the truth, words of wise men that we anchored on and took up as our dictum on life, the belief we counted as our immovable foundation, fame, power, possessions, riches which we thought could save us from everything, would all be discounted ….. discounted so heavily that they would then reflect their real worth.
Let it not happen that at the end of our seasons we would finally find the things which are more valuable, more worth possessing, desiring and really worth investing in. Its at the end of seasons we will find what our investments have brought in, how well we have fared with what God has invested with and within each one of us. The end of seasons, when God scrutinizes our lives for all its worth. The Bible describes a time when each man’s work will be tested with fire, and everything that is built with hay and grass will be burned up in that fire.
A missionary to Africa, who left the luxury and comfort in his life to reach Africa with Love and Compassion, to finally shed his life there, once said “He is no fool, who gives up what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”
