Jai Ho!!

Indian Elections is the event that has made Prannoy Roy and NDTV what they are today and thus also almost responsible for the existence of almost every other news channel in the fray. Indian Elections, atleast in the last two decades, has been the subject of much speculation because of the change in the voting patterns of the electorate, more importance being given to local issues. This of course has kept Prannoy and his boys happy and very soon will make him a media baron! Jai Ho Prannoy?
With no clue about from where the bolt that battered and shattered them came from, National Democratic Alliance has reduced and become a Nationally Depleted Alliance. Actually speaking they still haven’t realised what hit them. On second thoughts, I think even the United Progressive Alliance has no clue on how they won so many number of seats at all, thus becoming an Undoubtedly Perplexed Alliance!! Bottomline, everybody is sleepless, only that, UPA is partying! Jai Ho UPA?
With PMship projected as the apt ending to the long and distinguised (now extinguished) career of one great statesman, originally from Pakistan, it is sad that his career ended five years earlier than projected. A second term for him was anyways ruled out by the party itself by projecting Narendra Modi as their PM candidate for 2014! I mean it wouldn’t have mattered much how good a PM Advani would have been, at least in terms of getting another term in the higest office of the land! So the ‘Bhartiya Janta’ decided not to give him any term at all! Jai Ho Bhartiya Janta?
Talking about the mutilation (of sorts) of the NDA, was it the ‘Jabs’ with a smile on the innocent face of the Singh who was and is King or was it just the smiles of the Half Italian, Quarter Parsi and Quarter Kashmiri pandit that humbled them? Well neither it seems. “This is not a victory of the Congress Party, this is our defeat,” said a beleaguered and almost in tears Advani. Though technically it doesn’t matter how it is stated, Advani’s deep rooted convictions against the style and policies of Congress party, something that he has nourished in him for decades, is not allowing this octagenerian statesman to gracefully admit defeat or give any credit to any Congressman especially the ones who smiled their way into the people’s heart and into the parliament with an unexpected victory. Perhaps in his humiliation, he has even refused to be the Leader of the Opposition in the Parliament! Jai Ho ‘Singh is King’? Jai ho ‘Gandhi ki Aandhi’?
I don’t think the UPA cares at all about how the NDA concedes defeat! They are having heady moments and even the cadidates that lost the elections are walking with heads high, intoxicated by the prospect of having a free hand for next five years! Talking about freehand, will Manmohan Singh usher in a new era of reforms alongwith Montek Singh Ahluwalia, the name most touted for the post of Finance Minister? The punters think so and the markets are expected to open with a historic high, with upper circuits expected to be broken in every category! Jai Ho Reforms? Jai Ho Bulls? Jai Ho Sensex?
Narendra Modi has withdrawn into a cocoon since Saturday when the counting began. He didn’t come out even on the Sunday. Having addressed 300 rallies, with over 220 of them outside the state, this PM Prospect-2014, with his vitriolic speeches and jibes at Sonia and her team, expected the entire nation to reacte like the Gujaratis did! This time however, it seems even the Gujaratis were not game. The infighting and the blame game has already started inside the most disciplined party. Projecting communally tainted Modi as the PM prospect was perhaps a bad idea! Or floating two names for PMship (albeit for different terms) was a bad idea. Whatever the reason be, with a diminished prospect of him coming back to BJPs central stage, atleast any soon, Gujarat will perhaps get a lot more of Modi’s attention and devotion. So national shame might become a regional blessing! Jai Ho Gujarat?
Gujarat in particular and India in general are raging to stake claim on everything on the globe. The unexpected inflow of the Oscars has only made Indians more emotionally gungho about the prospect of it. Shall we call it ‘Gungho’ since ‘Jai ho’? What will unfold remains to be seen. At least for the next five years, it seems, India will take a definite direction on a road devoid of Casteist bumps and Leftist detours. Indians will perhaps miss the opportunity of reading about and hearing its hyper sensational minister, the who even spoke at the Harvard and IIMA, Laloo Prasad Yadav, but this time of Global Recession, we needed stability and consistency more than entertainment. Jai Ho ‘Verdict 2009′? Jai Ho India?
To end this, I think, its time we realise and reconcile to the fact that the ‘Jai Ho’ may or maynot become true for all the above questions, not because of any want or lack in the opportunity, ability or will power, but because of an over-rider which says, “Many are the plans in the heart of a man, but it is the purpose of God that prevails”.
