‘Level Crossing’ Ahead
By: Geo (June 18th, 2008)On my way to work, I have to always pass through a railway crossing (a.k.a. level crossing). Mostly, regardless of the time that I go for work, I encounter a closed gate bringing a sudden stop to my usually fast journey.
When the train is passing by, every one has to stop. Regardless of who is in the vehicle, all have to wait till the train passes. Regardless of what the vehicle is, none of the vehicles is now as important as the train. Though the train maybe carrying only ordinary people, less important than the ones waiting in their cars et cetera, yet the only thing they can do is- to wait. However urgent and important the work on the other side of the gate maybe, the gate will not open. Be it a matter of crores or even a matter of life and death.
Most of the times, adventurous riders go beneath the gates (there often is a way through these gates)! But sometimes, the railway police stands with sticks to ensure that such feats are not exercised. However, if these adventurers and ‘most busiest’ people, who can’t waste even a minute, see the train, then they too stop.
Almost all the railway crossings across the country are now manned and there is a gatekeeper in charge who closes the gates whenever a train approaches. These crossings also have sign posts (railings). There also is a signal light that goes red when the gate is closing. Then there is a hooter (siren) that sounds when the train reaches a certain distance from the level crossing. Moreover, the railways also has in place a signal locking system that automatically shows the red light to the train in case the gate is not closed.
So much for a train to cross! So much happens too when a train crosses. So many signs. So many warnings. And a sudden halt for everyone except the train! Everything seems normal till minutes before the arrival of the train.
I am reminded of Jesus saying, “They were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.” Noah prepared for the flood. He left no dearth of signs and warnings for those around him but no one heeded, and then suddenly, the flood came!
Jesus was actually referring to ‘His coming back!’ I will say, He was either crazy or He was dead serious and still alive! Two thousand years and it has not happened yet, but some of the signs He said, now seem to be showing up! Maybe Jesus’ train might bring most people to stop (some would be in His train!)! It’s upto each person now to look into this and decide for himself.
