Paying for the Truth
By: Santosh (October 17th, 2009)TRUTH PAYS, LITERALLY!!

In the year 2008, Fox television started a new game show to titillate the minds of the viewers and get some excellent TRP ratings.
The show was “THE MOMENT OF TRUTH”. The game goes this way. The contestant has to undergo a polygraphy test before he or she goes live for recording. The contestents will be asked some very up close and personal questions which in todays times any individual would like to hide from his or her family. Then the answers are matched with the answers given at the time of the polygraphy test.
If both the answers matches then the contestent wins an amount and moves on to the next question. In total the contestant has to answer 21 questions and all the answers should match the answers from the polygraphy test. The final winner takes a cool $ 5 Lacs or Rs.2.5 cr.The catch is, all the questions would have to be answered in the presence of your friends, relatives, employer sitting next to a sofa near you.
But as the questions increase, they get really personal and its those questions where an individual sometimes would not like to be true to oneself or people whom they’re close to.
Just for the info the Indian TV industry has also started the same game show called “Sach Ka Saamna (Facing the truth)”
Now on the face of it I felt the concept a bit strange where people are making money by exposing individuals grey truths in front of a big public. On the other side, even though at a cost, people are bringing out their bitterness and truth against their relatives, collegues, parents, brothers, sisters and friends.
The fact is that somebody is paying a big amount to bring truth into this world. I was thinking that why one lies or says white lies in any relationship.
The host of the English show, Mark Wahlberg says “But my experience is that those who take money and leave are thrilled to have it and are grateful for the process.”
The Bible says in John 8:32 “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
The question is why are people grateful for the process, why is the truth making them more comfortable with their surroundings?
Lie, as the Bible says is a quality of devil and not of God. The moment we lie about anything, that gives a small window for allowing the devil into our life. We feel that we can speak a half truth or half lie or white lies. But the fact is their’s nothing called white lie, half truth etc. Theirs only one thing and that’s the truth.
And such a show is giving money to tell the truth, a reward to tell the truth which may or may not devastate their family or loved ones. We often tend to lead our lives thinking that a “lie which can save somebody, is not a lie”. We’ve been ingrained by that belief. The question we need to ask is, is that statement a lie or truth.
The moment we allow a single window of lie into our life, it develops within us like a cancerous tissue, subduing the truth and it comes out only with a trade off. In this case the money. But why people can’t tell truth to their spouses otherwise, their friends, collegues, children etc. It’s because, like a cancerous tissue the lie doesn’t allow us to speak out the truth. Sometimes we may also feel comfortable in speaking a lie as a routine factor.
Robin McKie, in a Guardian article in the UK, stated the end result as being, Lying destroys trust, and said: “The real problem is that a person who tells too many lies is clearly untrustworthy. We have no confidence that we can have a relationship, no matter how distant, with that person. There are no trustworthy rules or guidelines for dealing with them”
Theirs always a price to be paid for revaeling the truth to this world. Christ paid it 2000 years ago on the cross, and He paid it once for and all so that ours sins, our lies are covered under His blood.
Lets embrace Him and be a part of His show, His script so that we’re always rightous in His eyes and are not embarassed when we speak a truth to our friends, family or relatives, even if it hurts them for some time but in the long run they’ll become more and more closer to us…As God became more closer to us when He gave His only son’s life for our sins and lies.
God Bless.

Santosh, great blog ! Most people lie thinking that it is less harmful and why not do it if it is for a greater good ! We think that way because we see things only from a human perspective. But God who put this law in our heart says that for HIM a lie or a murder are equally gruesome and deserves only death. Becuase to HIM it was the origin of the wrong that mattered. The origin of every wrong is in our hearts and it is the condition of the heart that matters to HIM. It is in our hearts where we decide to disobey or rebel against God (the original SIN), the rest is just a question of how it gets manifested outside.
That is why Jesus said ‘But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart’. So we sin in our hearts, the core of our beings and that is who we really are.And it really takes a lot of guts and boldness to expose that area of our lives to others, unless we really are right with God in our hearts. And it really pays to come clean by confessing those to God himself because he can help you in correcting it. Even that can be so easily commercialised and trivialised in to a public spectacle for a few dollars. Once gain the wretched heart !

Good blog !! Well the truth mentioned in John, the passage that you mentioned, (according me to me) doesn’t really speak about the truth that is spoken by us, or a written truth, rather it refers to the personality, JESUS who Himself is the truth. Now read, and you shall know Jesus and Jesus shall set you free!!
