Powerfully Powerless!!

By: Blesson (May 14th, 2008)

It was mid April when I read about the elaborate plans of the Chinese government, on how they are preparing themselves for the upcoming Olympics. Frankly, I was quite impressed about the level of thought & effort they are putting in, to make the event a success. If you’ve ever been to China and if you had a glimpse of what they have built it to be, you would surely bow down to their achievements. In everything that they did, they’ve shown it to the world.. what sheer human grit could achieve!

The news article read something like this “The Chinese government hopes launching shells containing silver iodide pellets into clouds will curb rainfall and ensure clear skies for the 2008 Summer Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing. According to the plan, 100 staff at 21 stations surrounding the city will have 10 minute window to blast away at the clouds so that they can be dispersed before they come near the stadium. Three aircrafts will also be on stand-by to drop catalysts on the clouds…!!

Weather modification practices began in China in 1958. China has trained thousands to handle anti-aircraft guns which launch silver iodide bullets at the clouds in order to precipitate rain. The latest Beijing plan is just an offshoot of those practices. Now, August 8 will show how the ‘war’ games pan out.”

When I finished reading the article, It made me smile and I started wondering… well they have taken “the rain” head on and it seems that they will win the battle. But what about other devastating troubles like another bird flu…, earthquakes, meteors etc.. have they thought anything about it ?

The last few days unveiled the horror of a devastating earthquake in China. The giant is helpless. Reflecting, how miniscule the human life is. The rashness and rudeness of Nations, governments, individuals who seemed to have achieved and who think are in control, all seem laughable, when seen in the true contrasting light of the greatness of creation and the power held in the hands of the creator.

An individual, who conquers an area in his life, begins to get this false feeling and security that he has conquered everything and begins to counts himself to be the lord of his life, with power to control everything. While that’s okay to an extent, its gets on the nerve when they start dictating and infringing others territory.

We all have come across the hard-nosed executive, the winner in a competition, the boss of a conglomerate who just brought over his competitor or any individual who thinks he / she has conquered and has arrived. We know what it feels to have conquered but its foolish if we forget - on whose turf we are playing!

We think about a whole lot of issues, we plan endlessly and pay any price to get there on the top, we are so meticulous and detailed in so many areas of our life. We secure ourselves in every possible way, we program our lives, dictate our future, and love to feel in control. But when ultimately life shakes us, we wake up to realize that we were sleeping on a very shaky foundation. Our efforts were all put in the wrong place and our security was false.

Moments like these make us touch the ground and bring us in contact with reality. The mad rage for power & control is truly comprehensible, as no one can ever have enough of it. Ultimately, don’t you think … life is not about how much power you hold in your hands, but life is, in understanding - who holds the reins?!

People believe in themselves rather than the God. After my division getting closed in our bank we where waiting for the HR to place us in some other dept. People were getting restless, one of my collegues was just getting frustrated and hurling abuses at the bank. He started trying to fix him in some other dept. I asked him why you’re getting so impatient, trust in God and He’ll take care. He said “I believe in myself first, then God”.

    Olympic Update:

The ruling Communist Party envisions the Games as a public relations showcase and is leaving no detail untended. Scientists are cross-breeding chrysanthemums to ensure that flowers bloom in August.

Now Beijing is also going to try to manipulate air quality. For months, scientists have treated the city like a laboratory, testing wind patterns and atmospheric structure, while pinpointing local and regional pollution sources.

China is banning Bibles from the Olympic Games next year allegedly for security reason. The Bible is on a list of items – which include video cameras and cups – prohibited at the 2008 Summer Olympics, according to Fox News. This means Christian athletes will not have access to Bibles in their Olympic village housing.

Moreover, the communist and officially atheist country is banning all religious symbols at Olympic facilities in Beijing and warning visitors to not bring more than one copy of the Bible with them to China.

In short they are saying …. we dont need God when we can control the rains…. blooming of flowers and air quality !

Do you want to respond ?????

It’s high time these so-called ’superpowers’ realised their limitations. I think allowing themselves to be led by some godly principles might just do the trick and take them at the helm.
