Raindrops and Ripples
By: Blesson (November 12th, 2008)
A couple of months back, I was sitting on the porch with my son. A heavy spell of rain had just come to an end. There was water all over in the parkway and both of us sat down to enjoy the freshness that the rain had ushered in.
Suddenly my son spotted some movements in the water, that had collected in the parkway. He immediately questioned me, Dada what’s that in the water ? I realized that there were ripples and bubbles’ springing up in the water as rain was still drizzling. I replied to him, Son its rain. He immediately sprang back and replied, but Dada, there’s no rain. He was true in one sense as we really couldn’t see the rain drops.

I had a hard time to convince him that it was the rain drops, even though unseen, that was causing ripples in the water.
Well, my son doesn’t know how to spell SCIENCE, neither does he know how to spell his own name. He is just two and half years. But even the small knowledge of his world around, which spins mostly around few animals, Mr. Bean, Noddy & the likes, he couldn’t believe that an effect could happen without a cause! How could ripples be there in the water without rain drops ?
When we look around at the universe and the world in which we live, we see amazing flowers ( I just gifted a lovely bouquet this week to my wife), birds, insects and people. Where did they come from ? The very fact that something is here demands a conclusion that someone caused it. Things just don’t appear out of thin air.
Even if we say they came from explosive gases, where did that come from? Whatever was in the beginning had to come from someone or something.
There are only two possibilities – a mind or some matter created it. One of them hence has to be present before time began, meaning eternally. There are the only two possible choices.
To be fair, we need to point out that no person, living or dead , has actually observed either of these possibilities. No one has actually observed God in the process of creation. And certainly no one has ever observed one life form evolving in to another life form, or more importantly, life evolving from non living matter.
Yet the fact that we exist demands that one of these two processes actually occurred. Please note that to arrive at either of the conclusion, science wont help us, we must use our conscience and faith. Yes …. For either of these options, you need faith. Think about it..

If matter is eternal, or simply put everything came out of matter, then it means that rock and dirt somehow changed themselves to become living things. And if that’s the case, then there is no real difference between a human being and a pile of dirt in my back yard other than a billion or so years of pure, blind chance !
The alternative is to believe that all things exist owe their existence to the creation of the Supreme God who spoke this world in to being, a God who created the stars and the seas, the plants and the animals, and set them all in to place on this planet we call Earth.
