Save Her; Let Her Live too!

By: Pooja (May 4th, 2008)

“Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness…” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them… God saw all that he had made, and it was very good…”

April 11, 08: A 6-yr-old girl raped by her 22-yr-old neighbor and family friend
April 12, 08: A 3 and a half yr old girl raped by her next door neighbor
April 13, 08: A man allegedly raped his 12 yr old “mentally-challenged” neighbor
April 24, 08: A 12 yr old girl raped by a traffic constable and an accomplice in a moving car
April 26, 08: A 7 yr old girl raped and dumped by an unknown person
April 27, 08: A 4 and a half yr old girl was molested by her uncle at her residence

In India, over 30 lakh women are working as commercial sex workers against their will and more than 2 lakh people are believed to be trafficked within or through the country annually. Nearly 60% of the trafficking victims are minors.

Recently 13 girls were stripped to look for missing wallet in Jharkhand school. Girls were class 8th student. Among those searching the girls was their male headmaster and two other male teachers.

Vienna, Austria: An Austrian woman was kept prisoner and abused by her own father for 24 years in a basement dungeon in eastern Austria, where she bore 7 children. Her father, now 73 has been abusing the victim since she was of the age of 11 yrs. She was drugged and handcuffed before being imprisoned by her father.

Who can forget the Patan gang-rape case?

The government appeals day and night to save the girl child and is doing it all the more these days. The females in our world, especially in India have been so unfortunate to be abused even before being born. They are murdered inside the womb…drilled to death. Our honorable government is trying to stop this heinous act and prevent this murder…But I want to ask everyone, even if the female escapes this horrendous murder…is she really SAVED?? Have we really succeeded in saving her? Or are we just shuttling her between different kinds of deaths or may be something even worse-off?

The parents who decided to kill her before birth, who did not accept even before her birth, how can we be sure they’ll accept her after the birth and will let her live at peace?

On the other hand, now, in today’s perverted world or rather specially and mainly in India I should say…a female does not have to grow up (physically) to bear a lustful gaze from the evil monsters roaming everywhere in this world…EVERYWHERE…even inside your very homes. These monsters were strangers once upon a time, but today they are found in the faces of friends, acquaintances, relatives, teachers, neighbors, siblings, and even to the utmost disgust and haunting reality…one’s own parents…the Father!!!

Where is a girl child safe, I want to ask?? Nowhere!! She is at risk and danger…everywhere…Even in the mother’s womb…probably the safest of all places. And we are raising our alarms to save the girl child…for what, I want to ask?

If we can do absolutely nothing to really make sure to save the girl child except raising our voices once in a while, printing ads et cetera then Why I want to ask we raise these alarms? What is the meaning? When the very hands that are entrusted with the responsibility of providing safety to the victims are turning into the cruel hands of these demons ( I must say) of hell, who just satisfy their unending lust with the innocent blood, then WHERE…I want to ask with a burdened bleeding heart..is a girl child safe? Ladies are robbed, raped and murdered…poor little minor girls all over India specially the National Capital Territory of Delhi are captured and raped not once or twice but continuously for years…leaving the victim…neither DEAD nor ALIVE…but even WORSE-OFF than dead !

I don’t want to write a great article that shakes you but for a moment and then you forget about it forever…that will mean nothing. But I want to knock at your almost dead conscience and your hardened cruel heart and ask you to pause and think…spare a moment…specially those of you who have a sister, a daughter in your home…how can you…specially the fathers do such a hellish act to your child…a part of your being? What has gone so wrong with you? Did you become like this or you were like this even before her birth? Are people who are doing such things really human beings??? I have my doubts and I am sure you agree with me.

And I want to ask this question to all of you too…all who have daughters in their homes who are safe thus far by the grace of God (I pray God always keep them safe)…who are not bothered when somewhere someone’s daughter is raped, molested and dumped and you all turn a deaf ear and a blind eye to them……… I want to ask all of you…for whom it just becomes a piece of crispy news along with a hot sip of tea early in the morning…you, for whom it’s just an addition to the ever growing number of rape cases…you, for whom it just becomes yet another case file to rot in the police stations for years…you, who are sitting in the seats of authorities and passing no judgment till the one who is appealing becomes half dead knocking the shut doors of justice and finally dies due to the shame, rejection and insults hurled at them by our civilized society of India…you, who keep making laws which even the people in the authorities do not follow, rather break it at will and at their convenience to satisfy their evil desires…you, who make laws and hardly ensure they are being followed and just assume that this numb and almost dead society of ours will follow it and make this city/ country a better place to live in. This society, which leaves a dying man on the road in a pool of blood and doesn’t even care to stop by to see if the person is still alive or dead, rather this highly civilized and educated society rebukes the ones who do help. I want to ask you all…what kind of Human Beings you are??? DEAD? Am I talking to corpses? And if you think you are human beings (which I really doubt) and alive, then what do you think the females are? Your OBJECTS of sex/ lust/ pleasure? Are they not human beings too?

Why has our highly educated and esteemed society reduced them to mere non-living objects…that these human-faces monsters use at their will and throw anytime and anywhere so heartlessly…who don’t even pause for a moment and look at an innocent child and think to themselves…how can I do this??? What kind of India is this? What kind of evil society is this? What kind of human beings are these…if at all???

Is this society completely dumb, deaf, blind, lame…handicapped in every sense??? I used to think Public has power! When it gets together, it shakes a whole nation…but yeah, corpses are Dead bodies. They have no power, no sense, no feelings…and IT IS ROTTEN AND IT STINKS!!!

Is anyone alive there who is listening???

Very strong words. But have you not lashed out at the fathers and brothers who are not really the monsters that you have called them…?there are countless many who treasure their daughters and sisters and make life a worthy and meaningful experience for them…
But yes I also agree with the issue raised…the kind of news that flows in daily, the nation (worldover) surely seems to be selling out to lust and numbing up…

While rape cases are prominently splashed across newspapers, incest, which is equally ubiquitous, hardly gets reported. Cases like the Austrian father are plenty around us but the poor victims are hardly able to speak it out. But the question to be asked is about how and why so inhuman (and more so an animal) is man becoming when it comes to lust? The pain, the fear and the insecurity a girl or a woman goes through after the mishap is unimaginable.
At the same time, even young boys studying in religious institutions and boarding schools under the so-called ‘guardians’ have been victim to such heinous crimes (not mention being silent victims to incest). While such cases have surfaced at times, they usually go unnoticed.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not about who is more a victim, boy or girl, but the larger question is why they are? I don’t know the answers as well, but I believe God through our consciences is always trying to answer them. Maybe, we need to hear him more.
And as Geo says above, there are countless model fathers and brothers (and mothers and daughters) who can lead the society by examples.

A very heavy, hard hitting and heart breaking article.Such bitter realities shake one from the core and make you want to cry out and ask why?why has man hardened himself to such a degrading extent. Its horrifying to hear and read about such happenings.Seems as if we are all nurturing hell on earth.STOP.Let us strive to put a stop to all such inhuman acts which is threatening the life of God’s precious creation-woman.Let us not just let a tear or two roll out…but let us use the public power, which the writer highlights,to fight against this injustice before it devours us all.Saving one’s own daughter or sister will never eliminate the evil.So as an individual and a society of humane humans, lets join our hands to fight against these evils rather than being indifferent to them.We must pray that the quality of respecting women and girls by every individual maybe inculcated to an infectious or should i say inspirational level through all the means possible.

Dear Pooja, your strong words are totally justified. I agree with Vinay when he says that its both girls and boys who fall victim to abuse. In fact it is an even more sorry state of social norms when it comes to boys who speak about physical abuse. Recently, I saw a two hour programme aired on one of the nonsensical hindi newschannels which was about a man accusing his wife of raping him. The man had filed a complaint in the police station and instead of probing what happened, the policeman and his constable were showing laughing uncontrollably. The man’s wife was absconding and their neighbours were laughing too. The channel even made a cartoon of it all. It was delporable.

Hope you’l write a second instalment on this issue Pooja and explore the atrocities men face too. Keep it up

People don’t realize that there’s a “D” before”evil”. The devil is capturing all our empty spaces of our mind thru the media by highliting any kind of relationships, Old with very young, young with very old(remember the movie Cheeni kum, The relationship and the conversations between Bachhan and his 7 yr old friend) as justifiable. And when these things happen regularly over a period of time people feel that’s theirs nothing wrong if a 40 yr old has a relation with a 10 yr old. And thus they feel that getting physical is also not a problem.
Pooja I think if the media starts to highlite the good things the father’s and relatives do with their daughter’s and son, the issue becomes somewhat addressable. But for that the definition of NEWS(Common thing done by a uncommon man and uncommon thing done by a common man) itself needs to be changed…
Also as a Church together we can fight for the cause in Christ’s name.

    Well said indeed!!

I feel the root cause of all evil against women in our country or across the globe is the OBJECTIFICATION OF WOMEN…

We are not treated as human beings…we are treated as SECOND GRADE CITIZENS OF THIS SOCIETY AT LARGE….women have always been ojects of desire……..”SOMETHING” ONE WANTS TO OWN..mind “SOMETHING”!!!

They say that all the major wars of this world are fought on three counts - Jar, Joru, Jameen. Jar/zar = gold, Joru = wife/woman, Jameen/zameen = land. This is where it lies………..it has always been like it.

On this platform, my only appeal to all is “GUYS…TAKE A BREAK…..ITS TIME TO GIVE THEM SPACE…LET THEM BE….WE ALSO WALK THIS EARTH IN FLESH AND BLOOD….ITS NOT ALL ABOUT POWER ALL THE TIME…..COZ EQUATIONS CAN CHANGE!!!!

    Poo….great writing…keep writing…way to go baby!!
