God and Evil

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Hi Abhishek,

I don’t know how to respond appropriately to your pain of loosing your eight year old son. I heard that he was suffering from Progeria due to which he was ageing much beyond his age. You told me that he had the body of an eighty year old when he died, a premature death, something that raises a lot of questions in our mind. I can understand your anger against God for allowing such evil but I cannot agree with your conclusion that therefore there is no God.

I still remember the days when I was the professor of philosophy at the University and you were one of the best students that I had. You were always a good thinker and used reason to good effect. In your last mail to me you told me to explain how an Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omni benevolent God can allow evil. According to you both are not logically compatible. And since evil is the most proven fact in this world you deduced that there is no God. (more…)

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Thank you for coming and joining with us during this hour of great loss for our family. Yesterday night i lost my dear wife after a prolonged battle for life. As you all know that she has not been keeping well for the last two years and towards the last days it had become unbearable for me to see the most important person in my life loosing the battle although after a valiant effort to keep what we cherish most, life ! My Loss

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

My eyes saw spreadsheets everywhere and I just wanted to get rid of it. I put aside my plans to paint for a while and yearned to finish dinner in a jiffy and plunge onto my bed the very next min. It would have been just another evening but for the phone call. The urgency in the tone of my sister at the other end made all my other-wise lousy senses alert.

Half a minute was all it took. O Boy! If times were to snatch the sweet memories, I would cling onto them tightly…cuz it is all that is left with me now. The songs we sung together at Sunday school, breaking the file we were asked to stand in, rolling with laughter at senseless things, pulling each others leg and all those stupid talks during the drama rehearsals which would go on and on much to the Sunday school teacher’s dismay. Dear Diya,

25 years back, on a cold winter morning, God came to my home wrapped in a small bundle.  A pink smudgy face, tiny arms and legs…. eyes that learnt to speak much before the mouth did…In a flash of a second, i had gone from being a selfish young guy to a man entrusted by God to bring up this tiny ray of hope…this ray of happiness we call Diya…

Oh what a misfit I was at first! Couldn’t hold you properly and had nightmares about dropping you!  Could never get the diapers right and wished there was a mute button on you when you cried all night for no apparent reason!  But I learnt…and I have loved every moment of it….

Kissing Death to Elude Life!

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Three students of Class XII committed suicides in three days of the exams having started. In less than three months of 2008, 15 students of Class X and Class XII committed suicide across the state. A mother, troubled by her unfaithful husband, jumped into a lake with her three children in the wee hours of one morning. All three died. Another 32 old mother of two had a quarrel with her husband went on to hang herself to death. A son of a police official committed suicide under mysterious circumstances. Another woman who came to her father’s house, consumed poison and succumbed at the hospital. Another woman immolated herself due to constant bickering by her in-laws over a property dispute. Another young girl hung herself from the ceiling fan under mysterious curcumstances. She had only married a few months back. A five member family committed suicide by consuming poison due to financial crisis. (more…)

Holy Guns!!

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

A gun that sends an electromagnetic pulse which causes seizures like that in epilepsy, a microwave gun that ‘beams’ words directly into people’s ears, another that is used as laser dazzler, still another that produces a sound loud enough to disturb the sense of balance, these are emerging non-lethal weaponry in the hands of the ‘Big Boss’. Some however have chosen to call these less-lethal weaponry!

More interesting is a microwave gun that produces a ‘disabling’ artificial fever by heating a person’s body! Though it would perhaps take about 15 minutes to achieve the desired fever effect, it could be used to incapacitate people for almost ‘any desired period’! (more…)
