Floatin in the air

A life without God, how would it be, like? Boundless freedom, no coercion to act in a particular way, fly where you want to, think as you want to, do as you desire to. Joy unlimited, Pleasure unrestrained. Tired of religions incessant demands, numerous false and illogical religious concoctions being thrust down our throats. We cry freedom, we want to throw it all out, to walk without anything, to walk on just pure air. The body soul and spirit seems to enjoy the fresh breath of a world without God. (more…)

Liar, Lunatic or Lord?

Hi Imran,

In response to my mail on the subject of Trinity you had posed a few questions which I intend to answer in this mail. I appreciate your sincere efforts in finding the truth about God and his nature. You wanted to know if Jesus ever claimed to be God. That is a very common question that I receive from many people because Jesus is often considered to be a prophet, moral teacher, a social revolutionary, a zealot, a spell binding preacher who could heal but not God.

However, the scriptures tell us that Jesus does things only God can do, exercises the rights of a deity and also makes direct claim to be God in flesh. In the Bible, before Jesus’ ministry here on earth, God calls himself as ‘I AM’. In Exodus 3:14 it says, God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” (more…)

The Grand Design - Way Beyond Simplistic Ideas

Imagine you were forced to parachute yourself on to the Alps with a bottle of water in your hand. As you touch ground, it starts snowing heavily and so you take cover inside a cave. Keeping down the bottle in your hand, you clean the snow off your attire and then go out to gather rest of your gear. When you return in a few minutes, you observe that the bottle of water has frozen. What was water in liquid form is now ice. You panic and frantically try to search for someone who did this act, but there’s nothing in the cave. Eureka ! you cry out, nothing can convert water in to ice, and you write a book on the theory of everything  and try to explain that God is now fully kicked out from the equation.

This is exactly what Stephen Hawking’s new book “The Grand Design” is trying to explain mankind, about how everything that is, has come in to being. Stephen’s book although has not ignited physics, as the theory proposed by him is just an old idea in a new garb. It is a simplistic approach, yet in our secular age it is one that seems to have resonance with a skeptical public. The reason the book has sparked lot of discussion is the philosophical conclusions that he is drawing from his proposed theory. (more…)

Hi Phil,

Here are some pictures that I took on my trip to some of the islands in the Indian Ocean. We started off our journey some six months before we reached our destination. It was basically an adventure trip where we were going to explore some of the scarcely populated islands in the world. Hardly has any man set foot on these islands because of the tough conditions of the ocean, lack of edible food and water and also the dangerous tribes that lived there for many years.

As we closed in on these islands we just wanted to have a look at the underwater creatures and vegetation that existed. While scuba diving, I came across a human skeleton with a nicely sealed bag made out of animal skin tied around his wrist. This was a fascinating sight as I was sure that these were the remains of some tribesman. I went closer to have a look. The bag was heavy and I was getting restless to have a look. I took the bag along with me back to the deck where I opened it in the company of other mariners. (more…)

We call it plain water

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

The much awaited monsoon had finally descended on our city with a few continuous and long spells. I ve always looked forward towards this time thru the year, a time to be drenched by the rains. It a great time of relief as the cold drops touch you face and drip in to your soul to soothe. This time I was with my son, who equally enjoys the rains. It was fun splashing and jumping in the poodles created in the courtyard of our house. Suddenly my son stopped playing and asked me a question – Dada where does this water come from, Is there a shower tap in the skies? Does God operate them ?. Why are there bubbles in the water? Why is water flowing away, I want to play, why cant we stop it. Later he would cry when the rains would stop or when it would just drizzle and I would tell him, ask God to open the shower. However these questions lingered in my mind and put me on to do some research on this simple thing called water. And I found there is much more beyond this simple thing called water. (more…)

Indian Elections is the event that has made Prannoy Roy and NDTV what they are today and thus also almost responsible for the existence of almost every other news channel in the fray. Indian Elections, atleast in the last two decades, has been the subject of much speculation because of the change in the voting patterns of the electorate, more importance being given to local issues. This of course has kept Prannoy and his boys happy and very soon will make him a media baron! Jai Ho Prannoy? (more…)

Hillsongs : Where the church met me

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

I was very excited that morning, the sun was still waking up as I hurriedly changed a few trains and rushed thru the crowd, meticulously following the travel plan in order not to miss the bus from Paramatta Sydney to the Hillsong church. It had been my desire for a long time to attend a worship service at this great church which has blessed nations across the world. My visit had more curiosity and excitement and I was all so much geared and focussed ‘to see’.
