Wrong Right!!

On 30 June the TOI Ahmedabad on its front page flashed “Treat LIVE IN AS MARRIAGE”.

The news highlighted that the National Commission for Women has said that, a woman in a live-in relationship should be entitled to maintenance if she is deserted by the man. In far-reaching recommendations to the ministry of women and child development, the Commission has sought a change in the definition of “wife’’ — as described in section 125 of CrPC which deals with maintenance — and suggested that it include women involved in a live-in relationship.

Now what the commission desires seems right at a glance however it protects the wrong woman, the commission in making this recommendation is providing a legal status to an illicit act. Think about it!!

If these recommendations are accepted then women will have the shelter of the law to continue such illicit acts. The fear of being wrong, of being turned down, the terrible results of such a life style will be minimized, and women will no longer be afraid of being helpless, will never even blink before jumping in to such a relationship. Ultimately - The wrong women will have the right. Moreover while today’s people may understand why the law has been amended, tomorrows generation will take this as protection to their heinous lifestyles. Given the evil bend in the human heart, this move will promote live in relationships, destroy families and snatch away legitimate rights of wives and children.

Instead of investing into teaching women about the true value of the family and strengthening the marriage bond, which has been the way for true safety and protection of the women. They say “Don’t be so open minded that your brains fall out”!

NCW seems to be in a mindless battle rather it seems to have lost its mind in the battle, instead of fighting for truth and justice, the fight is all about self. Women (read self) seem to be the priority and not ‘Truth’ or ‘Values’.

The National Commission for women has in an act of embracing every kind of women, taken up the issue to protect selfish women - who think live-in is right, women who do not believe in marriage and ones who are not ready to commit themselves in to a relationship. Rights must always be offered to the responsible. The commission seems to be stretching its arms too wide to embrace every woman only to realize that it is finally going to strangle itself in the embrace and put the society at stake.

G K Chesterton once said “Before pulling down any fence, think well why it was put up in the first place”.

Now a major reference will be moved once the definition of wife is changed. The west has moved them and we find them in the free fall with nothing to stop, groping in the dark with no anchor. Their generations are steadily forgetting what it means to be a family. Remember each time we remove the fence around the house, the walls of the house bear all the brunt and with passage of time and nothing to protect, they will surely come down. We will ultimately kill the one, for whom we were battling to secure freedom.

Our generation which does not believe in absolutes has lost the guts to abhor what is wrong. Wherever the ideology of relativism is prevalent, we eventually will find ourselves pulling down boundaries only to find that we have finally pulled ourselves down.
